South Shropshire Interfaith Forum tree planting with the High Sheriff of Shropshire
Mandy Thorn MBE DL, The High Sheriff for Shropshire 2023, has supported the South Shropshire Inter Faith Forum to mark Inter Faith Week by planting a plum tree at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms.
Inter Faith Week always begins on Remembrance Sunday and runs until the following Sunday.
Shropshire Council was represented by David Evans, a local Shropshire Councillor for Church Stretton and Craven Arms, whilst children from Stokesay Primary School helped to plant the tree with the High Sheriff. David Wiseman and Mark Michaels spoke about the importance of trees in different faiths, including the intergenerational aspects.

Mandy Thorn said:-
“We need to not look at the differences between us, but at what brings us together as human beings. That is why it is so important to celebrate Inter Faith Week, and it is a real pleasure to be here with you all today.”
David Wiseman, Chair of the South Shropshire Inter Faith Forum, said:-
“Thank you to everyone for making our tree planting such a significant occasion. We are also grateful to the school for sending such delightful pupils.”

Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult social care, public health and communities, added:-
“Inter Faith Week is a timely opportunity to work together across all faiths and none, to create a peaceful world, and I am sure that in Shropshire this tree will help us all to remember to do just that. Well done to everyone involved, and I look forward to the tree flourishing at the Discovery Centre. “
The tree has been planted in the community orchard at the Discovery Centre.

Inter Faith Week 2023
Each year national Inter Faith Week begins on Remembrance Sunday, and runs until the following Sunday. Remembrance Sunday was chosen as a start day to encourage people to remember together the contributions of all faiths and none, and to consider how best to create a just, peaceful, and harmonious world.
