Open Day at UCS
University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) will throw open its doors to the next intake of prospective students at an Open Day this month.
Students looking to start a degree course in 2018 can gain a taste of university life at the event, which takes place on Saturday 21 October 2017. People are invited to the Open Day at the University Centre’s learning and research base, at Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, from 10am to 3pm.
The Open Day will provide the opportunity to visit the University Centre’s fantastic study spaces and accommodation, learn more about the courses, meet the course tutors and Students’ Union representatives, as well as talk with current students about their experiences.
Professor Anna Sutton, UCS Provost, said:
“Attending an Open Day gives prospective students an opportunity to experience University life and, with many students about to start completing their UCAS application, we are looking forward to showing them what fantastic facilities and courses Shrewsbury has to choose from.
“The day will provide a chance to take part in some taster sessions, chat to academic staff and existing students and to explore the academic facilities, living accommodation and the town. Students can also find out more about the support available to help them during their degree, which can make a real difference to their careers.
“Shrewsbury has so much to offer, and UCS provides the perfect setting for students to reach their full potential.”
English student Amy Lloyd said:
“Being a student at UCS is an amazing, unique experience. As a relatively new, bespoke institution, the attention, support and facilities available put you in quite a privileged position. Student life outside of the University Centre is great too; there are so many social, sporting, volunteering and work opportunities.
“Meeting my amazing lecturers at a Visit Day confirmed my choice; they were so passionate, inspiring and friendly. I visited several other universities, but ultimately felt most comfortable here.
“I would recommend UCS to everyone looking to flourish at university. I certainly feel very lucky to study here.”
UCS has been established by the University of Chester and Shropshire Council. All courses are accredited by the University of Chester.
Research, learning and teaching are aligned to local, regional and national needs, spanning five areas: medicine and health; sustainable business and community development; heritage and the built environment; culture, creativity and place, and environmental science and technology.
Within these areas, courses offered include History, English, Primary Education, Applied Psychology, Business Management, Biochemistry, Genetics and Evolution, Musical Theatre and Sport Management.
