Shrewsbury primary school starts composting scheme in celebration of Compost Awareness Week
News from our partners, Veolia.
Oxon CE Primary School in Shrewsbury has welcomed a gift from Shropshire Council’s waste and recycling contractors, Veolia.
In celebration of International Compost Awareness Week (1 to 7 May 2016), Angela James, PR and Communications Officer for the company presented the school’s gardening club with a brand new compost bin.
Steph Shirra, gardening club teacher said:
“Our pupils are thrilled to receive the compost bin and they cannot wait to start filling it. The gardening club is a great way for us to implement parts of the curriculum in a very hands on way. By teaching our pupils the importance of recycling and in this case composting we are encouraging them to take care of their environment.”
Angela James said:
“At Veolia we love to teach the next generation how important recycling is. Composting is a big part of that and something that we do on a very large scale. Our free compost bins for schools scheme means we can help get pupils started on their composting journey.”
