Susie explains how the redesign of the council’s adult social care service has helped it to ensure that it is Care Act ready

The Care Act is the biggest change to English adult social care law in over 60 years and will reform the law relating to care and support for adults and their carers.

The Act, which will come into effect from 1 April 2015, will replace a number of different pieces of legislation with a single modern law and a new legal framework that will have the wellbeing of individuals at the heart of care and support services.

In Shropshire, the council is already working toward the approaches described within the Act through the redesign of adult services, so many people will see little change in the service they receive.

This redesign has enabled the council to better focus on the things that really matter and help it to support people’s independence and promote their wellbeing – both key aspects of the act.
