Shropshire apprentices prepare to wow judges at annual competition
It’s Shropshire hairdressing and barbering apprentices’ time to shine in the annual County Training Hair Academy competition, run by Shropshire Council on Monday 10 February 2014.
Apprentices from across the county will be battling it out to be crowned ‘Shropshire’s top Hairdressing and Barbering apprentice’.
County Training is encouraging all of its hairdressing and barbering apprentices to take part in the annual competition, which this year has an ‘Eras’ theme, to demonstrate the range of skills and abilities they have developed throughout their training to date.
The event, which is supported by Revlon, will see apprentices who are employed by salons in the Ludlow, Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Telford and Whitchurch areas present their hard work and show off techniques they have learnt throughout their vocational training with both their employers and while studying at County Training’s Hair Academy.
The students’ hard work will be shown through a fantastic display of creations, which every year provides an unbeatable show for both the judges and audience.
County Training is part of Shropshire Council and holds its hairdressing competition every year to celebrate the talent and achievement of young hairdressers in Shropshire who are currently working towards completing a Hairdressing and Barbering Apprenticeship.
The Lord Hill Hotel, Shrewsbury will be hosting the event on Monday 10 February from 1pm-5pm, and have kindly donated the venue for free.
Gill Smith, County Training’s hairdressing manager, commented:
‘The support of Lord Hill Hotel and Revlon means we can run the competition with minimal cost, so it is fantastic that we are able to continue with this annual event and provide our apprentices with the opportunity to showcase their skills. We’re all looking forward to this year’s competition, as the talent continues to amaze both audience and judges each year.”
Through the ‘Eras’ theme, competitors will be taking part in a range of categories which include the Victorians, Edwardians, the Swinging Sixties and the showstopping Great Gatsby. The winners will get the chance to take part in a professional photoshoot with Revlon to create a portfolio of their work.
Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, said:
“Such events demonstrate the importance of work-based training programmes, and how effective they are in developing a person’s skills in their chosen career. It is wonderful to see so much creativity and professionalism present within Shropshire’s younger generation, and I wish all competitors the best of luck.”
All salon owners in Shropshire are invited to attend; tickets for the competition are £5 and can be purchased by calling County Training on 0345 678 9023 or by contacting a member of staff at our hair academies across the county.
