Emergency medical care on the agenda at Bishop’s Castle meeting
The next meeting of the Bishop’s Castle, Chirbury and Worthen, and Clun Local Joint Committee (LJC) takes place on Thursday 13 February 2014 at 7pm at the SpArC Centre in Bishop’s Castle.
The meeting will focus on the response to medical emergencies in south west Shropshire, and what the challenges of delivering these services are.
Speakers at the meeting include John Wright, the Assistant General Manager of West Midlands Ambulance Service; Becky Tinsley, Operations Manager, Midlands Air Ambulance;and Paul Tully, from Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group.
Their presentation will focus on how their respective services respond to emergency calls in the area, where the rural road network plays a major role in the speed they can attend callouts. The meeting will also discuss how possible changes to hospital services in Shropshire may impact on residents of the area.
Councillor Nigel Hartin, chairman of the LJC, said:
“We are all aware of the challenges our emergency services face in attending incidents in south west Shropshire. The meeting at Bishop’s Castle will give us the opportunity to hear more about how our emergency services are working together to meet these challenges. We have also asked for a further update on the changes at Shrewsbury and Telford hospitals, which were discussed at our last meeting in October 2013.”
The meeting will also include a review of the latest requests for grant support from the LJC, a question and answer session with local councillors, an update on the Shropshire Council budget for 2014/15, and an update on Shropshire Fire and Rescue’s budget for 2014/15.
Members of the public are very welcome to attend the meeting and join in the discussions.
