Get into cycling at Pedal for Health taster days
Whether for fun, for fitness or to get to work or the shops, nothing beats a cycle ride.
If you’re new to cycling and want to try cycling away from the traffic and with plenty of friendly support on hand, then why not come along to Shrewsbury Sports Village for a free Pedal for Health taster session?
At the monthly sessions, organised by Travel Shropshire, you can either bring your own bike or use one of the men’s, women’s or child’s bikes provided. We have helmets too. You can try riding on the bespoke cycle track and, should you wish, take a short ride on the nearby Route 81 cycle path led by a cycle ride leader.
If you are a complete beginner we can help you make your first turns of the pedal, and help you get back in the saddle. Should you have the need for an adapted bike we have super trikes and tandems available, and the help of an experienced coach David Nicholas. Carers and support workers are also very welcome.
We can help answer all your cycling questions, from what bike and accessories to buy, suitable starter cycle routes and social cycle ride opportunities, together with follow-on free training opportunities – on road cycle skills, basic bicycle maintenance and cycle ride leadership.
The Wednesday sessions are from 1pm to 3pm and upcoming dates are:
- 18 December 2013 (tomorrow)
- 15 January 2014
- 19 February 2014
- 19 March 2014

Anyone in Shropshire who would like information and advice on living a healthy lifestyle can visit www.healthyshropshire.co.uk or call the Healthy Shropshire helpline on 0345 678 9025. This number has been set up to provide a single point for people to go to for support with improving their health. Advisers can help people looking to find out more about how they can be healthier, and prevent themselves or others from getting ill.
