Local residents of Yorkfields, Oswestry have raised £160 from their charity coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event, hosted by Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing, was held at the community centre at Yorkfields Sheltered Scheme, and was part of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.  The nationwide event encouraged people and organisations to host a coffee morning, with all the donations made going to the charity.

The coffee morning included a variety of moneyraising activities, including cake stalls, quizzes, bingo, as well as many other activities.

Chris Leek, Community Support Services Manager at Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing, said:

“The Macmillan coffee morning at Yorkfields Sheltered Scheme was a great success, and I am delighted that we have raised £160 to support a very worthy cause.  As well as bringing both tenants and local residents together to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, the event was a great way to get the local community together to socialise and have fun.  I would also like to thank our staff for all their hard work in making this happen.”

Becky Wood, Housing Support Facilities Officer at Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing, added:

“The residents of Yorkfields all pulled together and baked some marvellous cakes to raise money for the MacMillan charity.  Residents also brought along with them ‘bric-a-brac’ which anyone could purchase for a donation to MacMillan.  Everyone took part in the many activities on offer; the whole event was a great success.”
