Summer activities at Severn Valley Country Park
Now the school summer holidays have begun, the visitor centre and tea shop at Severn Valley Country Park is open seven days a week from 11am-5pm.
Each Wednesday we have a series of events led by our rangers. Coming up are “A Weird and Wonderful Woodland Journey”, “The Severn Valley Big Band”, “Have a Go at Geocaching” and ‘The Teddy Bears Picnic”.
If you are unable to make it to our Wednesday events, we will have a self-led summer trail available daily. Using a map you can find clues around the park which will help you complete your answer sheet. Trail maps cost £1.50, and every two weeks during the holidays the theme and the route of the trail will change, so you can keep coming back to the park to see where the trail will lead you next.
Also, we have adventure back packs available. There are three different themes – pond dipping, minibeasts, and tree-mendous trees. Each pack contains everything you would need to explore different aspects of the park. Depending on the activity, the backpacks contain spotter sheets, magnifying glasses, bug boxes, tape measures, pencils, colouring sheets and much more. They will help you be a ranger for a day. The backpacks are £3 each (with a £10 refundable deposit on its return).
Visitor centre manager Susie Comaish said:
“We have a lot going on during the school summer holidays. As well as our events, we have 126 acres of beautiful countryside to run around in, the Route 45 cycle path, our children’s outdoor playground, and plenty of picnic areas to help make an enjoyable day out for everyone.”
All Wednesday events are 10am-12pm, and 1.30pm-3.30pm, except The Teddy Bears Picnic which is 12pm-2pm. It is £3 per child, and under 8s must be accompanied by an adult. Booking is essential for “Have a go at Geocaching”, as we have a limited number of GPS handsets. Please call 01746 781192 for more information about all the events.
