Local commissioning on agenda at next Oswestry LJC

Oswestry Local Joint Committee (LJC) will welcome Kate Garner and Gill Jones from Shropshire Council’s community action team to talk about local commissioning, at their meeting on Thursday 13 June 2013 at the Council Chamber, Castle View, Oswestry, at 7pm.

Residents of the Oswestry area are urged to come along to hear about local commissioning and what it means to them.  Shropshire Council is working with communities to explore a different way of designing and delivering services.

We are becoming a ‘commissioning’ council, which recognises that we can work better with our partners to shape services for each community and its particular needs and challenges.

From repairing roads to supporting families, we are looking at new ways of working which better reflect what we are told is important.

By making changes based on this work, we aim to ensure that services don’t cost more than they should, are delivered by the best people to do the job and support local jobs and economic growth.

The committee has a regular item on its meeting agendas allowing all members of the community opportunity to raise any questions or concerns that they may have for the area in which they live.  This can be a very local item or may relate to specific questions around safety or crime for example.

Vince Hunt, a local Shropshire Councillor and LJC member, said:

“I look forward to being able to engage with people to enable local commissioning, and to be informed about what you want.  You can help make the changes.”
