New work club launches in Bridgnorth to help jobseekers

A new Work Club, where jobseekers can get advice and support on finding work, has been launched in Bridgnorth Library.

The Work Club gives people in Bridgnorth the chance to meet others looking for work, build new contacts, share job hunting experiences and get advice on interview techniques, CVs and even volunteering opportunities.

Set up with the help of Jobcentre Plus, the Work Club is being run in conjunction with the Bridgnorth Lions Club, Sainsbury’s Bridgnorth, and Jobchange, which is a charity that helps people to get back into work.

Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and leisure, said:

“The Work Club will enable jobseekers to draw on a wealth of experience and advice, giving them the edge in a competitive jobs market. During each session, people can swap ideas and talk to the advisers about ways to improve their prospects of finding work.”

Rawden Parslow, Principal Librarian for south Shropshire, said:

“With a wealth of books on related subjects and free use of computers, libraries already offer a lot of help to those seeking work.  The Work Club builds on this, and it’s fantastic that the idea has had such strong local support from the Lions Club and Sainsbury’s.”

The Work Club takes place every Wednesday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm in Bridgnorth Library.  For more information contact Bridgnorth Library on 01746 763358 or email bridgnorth.library@shropshire.gov.uk.
