Key dates for this year’s local elections
Local elections will be held in the Shropshire Council area on Thursday 1 May 2025 – to elect councillors for Shropshire Council and for town/parish councils in the Shropshire Council area (where contested).
Boundary changes will be in effect for the Shropshire Council elections.
- There will be 23 newly-named divisions.
- There will be 74 councillors in 72 divisions (two divisions have two councillors).
Some boundary changes will also be in effect for the town/parish council elections.
The key dates for voters and candidates are as follows. For more information visit the Shropshire Council website.
- From Friday 14 March. Poll cards sent to registered electors.
- Wednesday 2 April (4pm). Deadline for receipt of nominations.
- Thursday 3 April (by 4pm). Lists of candidates (also called statement of persons nominated) published.
- Thursday 3 April. Lists of polling stations published.
- Friday 11 April (11.59pm). Deadline for registering to vote.
- Monday 14 April (5pm). Deadline for applying for a postal vote.
- Wednesday 23 April (5pm). Deadline to apply for free voter ID (known as a voter authority certificate or VAC).
- Wednesday 23 April (5pm). Deadline for applying for a proxy vote.
- Thursday 1 May. Election day. Polling stations open from 7am to 10pm.
- Friday 2 May. Verification and counting of Shropshire Council votes
- Friday 2 May Verification of town and parish council votes.
- Saturday 3 May. Counting of town and parish council votes.
