Latest flooding information: UPDATE Friday 20 October 11am

The Met Office has reissued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain affecting the West Midlands and Wales which is valid until 6am tomorrow, Saturday 21 October 2023.

Driving conditions are difficult, and the A4117 Cleobury to Ludlow and A458 at Much Wenlock have already been closed due to flooding, and other routes affected by heavy surface water and broken down vehicles.

People are warned to expect:

  • Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life
  • Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads
  • Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.

Please do not call Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service to report flooded roads, unless there is a danger to life. Shropshire Council’s highways can be contacted on 0345 678 9006.

The Environment Agency has issued the following Flood Warnings and Flood Alerts:-

Flood Warnings

Wesley Brook at Shifnal, including Evelith.

Flood Alerts

Severn Vyrnwy confluence.

Upper Teme: which has been reissued, having been removed on Thursday 19 October.

Flooding is also possible for: River Teme, River Onny and River Corve and their tributaries upstream of Ludlow

Recycling and waste collections

Some recycling and waste collections cannot be made today. If your household waste or recycling is not collected today, please leave your containers out and they will be collected as soon as possible.
