Shropshire Council is getting behind National Fitness Day 2023 (Wednesday 20 September 2023) with a host of offers to encourage people to get active and keep fit.

As well as reminding people to get outside and explore the countryside for free, our leisure team has some great incentives on offer on the day.

Members at Church Stretton, Much Wenlock and SpArC at Bishop’s Castle have the chance of winning a month’s free membership by showing their support on social media. By liking and sharing Shropshire Leisure Time’s National Fitness Day posts, users will be entered into a free prize draw on Thursday 28 September.

In Shrewsbury, the Shrewsbury Community Leisure Trust is running small group training sessions for free to all registered MORE members, and people who are signed up through the Leisure Time app will also be able to bring a friend along for free on National Fitness Day.

Robert Macey, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and digital, said:-

“We all know the importance of exercise for our health and wellbeing, and it’s brilliant to see our leisure centres getting involved and encouraging people with offers linked to National Fitness Day.

“We don’t have to be focusing on the gym to improve our fitness though. As a county we have some of most stunning countryside to explore and fantastic opportunities for outdoor activities. Our Shropshire’s Great Outdoors is the place to go for walking, cycling and other outdoor experiences. Why not visit our country parks with playgrounds, easy access paths, toilets and refreshment kiosks?”

National Fitness Day promotes the role physical activity plays across the UK, helping to raise awareness of its importance in assisting us to lead healthier lifestyles.

Consider becoming a member of the Shropshire’s Great Outdoors membership scheme and support the country parks and sites across the county. Not only will you be helping to protect the future of Shropshire’s beautiful countryside, but you will also receive some member discounts and benefits.
