Musicians – Ensemble! Shropshire Music Service launches new ensembles in New Year
Shropshire Music Service, part of Shropshire Council, is launching a brand-new suite of ensembles to welcome in 2023.
Eleven ensembles will be hosted in various locations across Shropshire. The sessions are open to all children and young people in the county and are free-of-charge to all participants.
The music service’s most popular ensemble, Stompers, is now being hosted in four locations across the county including Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Wem, and Cleobury Mortimer.
New groups include an advanced show choir at Shrewsbury Academy and a youth choir at Sundorne Infant School. Instrumentalists can join training and youth orchestras or sign-up for the service’s big band or world folk ensemble.
Launching the 2023 range of ensembles, Dr Sarah Browne, the new Head of Shropshire Music Service said:
“This is a really exciting development for the music service. We’re committed to making sure every child and young person in Shropshire can access high-quality music making. With the support of both the Arts Council and several schools in Shropshire, we hope to reach many more young musicians.”
Councillor Kirstie Hurst-Knight, Cabinet Member for children and education added:
“I am delighted that our Shropshire Music Service is again running these fantastic ensembles for children and young people. For many young people, playing music is more than just a hobby. It’s very social, therapeutic and keeps young people connected. Our exciting range of ensembles are offered in several venues across the county and are free-of-charge to all participants. Why not make it one of your New Year resolutions and sign up to one today.”
Rehearsals commence the week beginning 9th January 2023 and will run on a weekly basis.
