Shropshire Leadership Conference another huge success
Shropshire’s third Leadership Conference is being hailed as a huge success after nearly 200 delegates joined together for a day of inspirational and practical speeches and the chance to network with others.
The conference, organised by Shropshire Council’s Shropshire HR team, on Tuesday (15 November 2022) at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury, offered those attending the chance to learn all about different styles of leadership from a line-up of world-renowned keynote speakers, including Sir Clive Woodward OBE, Debra Searle MBE and Richard Nugent.
Other speakers included Alex Clinton from associate sponsor, Thomas International, who talked about the challenges businesses face with regards to recruitment and developing or attracting talent, especially since the pandemic, and how they can be overcome. In a later slot, Alex also talked about emotional intelligence and its importance within the workplace.
Event sponsors Throgmorton Associates Wealth Management and Paycare also took to the stage for a question and answers session with host, Carl Jones.
Outside the action of the main stage, those attending enjoyed an opportunity to visit the many exhibitors, network with other attendees, experience hands-on workshops and visit a Wellbeing Zone sponsored by Paycare, as a reminder to prioritise mental health in the workplace.
Andy Begley, Shropshire Council’s chief executive, said:-
“I was floored by the quality of our speakers, and I felt very privileged to be able to welcome them to Shropshire. They are all from very different walks of life, they have different stories but there was a common thread through everything that they said. Leadership isn’t really that complicated, but it is a crucial thing to get right.
“The conference offered everyone the chance to develop and challenge their thinking. For me, my two main takeaways from the day were ‘sometimes we focus too far ahead – all you’ve got to do is win the next game’ and ‘concentrate on the things you can control, not on the things you can’t’.
“That wasn’t all though. There was a real buzz outside the main stage too, where people gathered during breaks. People were talking to each other, some starting conversations and others catching up with those they hadn’t seen for possibly two or even three years. It was great to see and be part of this fantastic day.”
Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for finance and corporate resources, added:-
“The event was packed full of inspiration and ideas. The speakers were excellent with their though-provoking talks, but it was the energy in the theatre that made it really special, and I’m positive it will be remembered for a long time.
“We are so lucky to be able to host an event like this, with such well known speakers. I hope that everyone who attended found the day useful and took plenty away with them – I certainly did.”
