Shropshire Community Leisure Trust offers free sport and fitness sessions at three leisure centres
Three Shropshire Council leisure centres, operated by Shropshire Community Leisure Trust, are throwing their doors open for free at their Big Open Weekend (Saturday 12 March and Sunday 13 March 2022).
Oswestry Leisure Centre, The Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre in Shrewsbury, and Shrewsbury Sports Village, are welcoming people of all ages to tour the facilities and take part in trial classes and activities all weekend.
Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for communities, culture, leisure and tourism, and transport, said:-
“Shropshire Council’s leisure centres have a wide array of opportunities for people of all ages to take part in sports and fitness activities. The Big Open Weekend showcases what’s on offer and it’s free to explore.”
At Oswestry there will be adult and junior gym sessions, taster classes for Zumba, Pilates and Forever Fit, yoga and gymnastics lessons, swimming activities for all ages and abilities including a ‘wave rave’, and family fun including a bouncy castle and rollerskating.
John Price, local Shropshire Councillor for Oswestry East, said:-
“There are so many activities available for people to try on the Big Open Weekend I think people will be spoiled for choice. It is a great way to discover what’s on offer in our town.”
The Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre will also be offering adult and junior gym sessions, swimming for health and leisure, including use of the diving boards and flume, and taster fitness classes, while Shrewsbury Sports Village will be offering adult and junior gym sessions, fitness classes, adult football sessions, gymnastics, the cycling track and climbing wall.
Nat Green, local Shropshire Councillor for Quarry and Coton Hill, added:
“The Quarry fitness centre and the swimming pool with its diving boards and flume is an excellent place to go for people looking to improve their fitness and enjoy more leisurely activity. These free taster sessions are a great way to encourage more people to come and enjoy what’s on offer.”
Kevin Pardy, local Shropshire Councillor for Sundorne, urged people to take advantage of the offer at the Sports Village. He said:-
“There are some excellent facilities including the football pitches, cycling track and climbing wall.
“Who knows, if enough people take part in the adult football sessions there may be an opportunity to form a team!”
