Christmas cheer with Armed Forces at outreach event next Monday
Shropshire Council is inviting people to the Christmas Armed Forces outreach event this Monday (16 December 2019) at 10am-1pm.
The event is being run as part of the Armed Forces Covenant partnership, and will include a morning of Covenant signings and Christmas cheer.
Six more organisations will be signing the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. They are Shrewsbury Baptist Church, Crowmoor Baptist Church, Palmers Café, CrossFit Shropshire, Shropshire Association of Supported Housing, and Crane Counselling.
There will also be a raffle with prizes donated from local businesses that support the Armed Forces Outreach in Shropshire.
The Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff and Station Commander from RAF Shawbury will be attending.
Sean McCarthy, Shropshire Council’s Armed Forces Covenant lead, said:
“I would like to congratulate the six businesses who are signing the Armed Forces Covenant. This demonstrates their commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community and members of their workforce who may have connections to the military. In Shropshire we are lucky that we have so many businesses that have signed the Armed Forces Covenant. I think this highlights the fact that businesses are keen to support the military in Shropshire and are proud to live and work in an area steeped in military history.
“I’m proud that the outreach project continues to go from strength to strength and this is down to the dedication of the people involved. Over the last 6-8 months the organisations involved have supported so many people. This project is a great example of how we can achieve so much more by pooling resources and working together.”
The event is at Palmers of Shrewsbury, Claremont Street, Shrewsbury, SY1 1QG at 10am.
To date, 72 organisations in Shropshire have signed the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant.
The offers that they have made to support current military personnel and families, as well as veterans, include discounts on purchases, free advice and consultation, financial planning, family support, housing matters and employment advice and opportunities.
Shropshire Council are a gold standard organisation for its work to date with the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Armed Forces Covenant
The Armed Forces Covenant is the nation’s commitment to those who proudly protect our nation, doing so with honour, courage, and commitment. It’s a pledge that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve, or who have served, in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.
