Gritting and road closure update – Friday 2 March, 10.30am

Related topics: Highways, transport and environmental maintenance

This is the situation regarding gritting and road closures in the Shropshire Council area, as at 10.30 on Friday 2 March.

  1. All traffic needs to take care on all roads during this severe weather and only travel as necessary.
  2. The mainline gritter fleet have treated/ploughed the primary network 5 times since yesterday morning, secondary routes have been done once as have car parks.
  3. Minor roads are being treated by our farmer/contractors, but not all of those have access to salt spreaders and some will be only ploughing to try and keep minor routes clear.
  4. Minor roads which have been salted will still need to be approached with care as the salt needs to be trafficked before it becomes most effective.
  5. Strong winds are blowing snow on to roads from fields and there is significant drifting in places.
