Arts Network café events coming up this month and next

Artists, community and voluntary art organisations and anyone interested in the arts, are invited to attend the following Arts Network Events, all from 6pm to 8pm:

• Thursday 12 October 2017 –  The Gateway Education & Arts Centre, Shrewsbury
• Thursday 2 November – Designs in Mind, Oswestry
• Tuesday 21 November – Scrappies, Church Stretton.

The events are free to attend, and provide an opportunity to network, exchange ideas, information and learn new skills.

Art

12 October: artist talk by Anne Marie Lagram, about “Medgel – Portrait of a Witch”, a collaborative visual art and storytelling project, initially inspired by the folklore of Mitchell’s Fold stone circle. The project explores what happens when fear and intolerance takes over our community/society.

Anne Marie will share how she developed a small idea into a successful project, which secured Arts Council funding, her top tips, successes and the struggles she has encountered along the way. Get involved in a creative workshop.

2 November: talks by Catherine Wilks (Designs in Mind) and Jane Povey (Creative Inspiration Shropshire) – sharing best practice and processes from their organisations. Opportunity to feed into the development of social prescribing network/hubs for Shropshire, particularly focusing on arts and health. Use hand-building techniques to create your own ceramic pot or vessel.

21 November:  creative workshop, led by Scrappies artists. Artists will share their experience of working with recycled materials in creative arts and educational programmes for young people. The workshop will help you to generate ideas through a practical session as well as discussions around creative arts for children with special and additional needs.

Throughout the evenings, artists will have the opportunity to network and exchange ideas and information.
