Work to begin next week on Hadnall flood alleviation scheme

Work is due to start on Monday (24 October 2016) on the Hadnall culvert flood alleviation scheme.

The proposed works involve the construction of a new culvert under the A49 and associated roads to prevent the flooding of local properties and the A49.

Preparatory works have been ongoing for the last two years to divert utilities in order to allow the works to go ahead.

The work is due to take 20 weeks to complete and has been coordinated with other street works in Hadnall, and to fit in with Shropshire Council’s embargo on work in the run-up to Christmas.

The initial works won’t cause any disruption on the A49, but two-way traffic lights will be in operation on the A49 in the New Year for up to 9 weeks.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, and councillor for the Hadnall area, said:

“I’m pleased that this important and much-needed work is about to get underway. Once complete it’ll greatly reduce the chances of local roads and properties flooding, which can only be good news. There may, of course, be some disruption while work is carried out but I know that everything possible has been done to minimise any inconvenience caused to local people and businesses.”

The work will be undertaken by McPhillips (Wellington) Ltd and will be supervised by the Shropshire Council’s term consultant Mouchel.
