Malcolm Pate, Leader of Shropshire Council, and Clive Wright, chief executive of Shropshire Council, will be the guest speakers at the next meeting of the South West Shropshire Local Joint Committee (LJC) when it meets on Thursday 14 April 2016 at 7pm at the SpArC Centre in Bishop’s Castle.

They will be speaking about the challenging budget Shropshire Council is facing in the next three years, and what the possible impact on services in the area might be.  The meeting is open to the public, who are being encouraged to come to the meeting to hear the presentations and take part in the question and answer session at the meeting.

Councillor Charlotte Barnes, Chair of the LJC, said:-

“Earlier this year Shropshire Council published their financial strategy for the next 3 years which showed the need to make very big savings. However, these savings have the potential to impact significantly on rural areas, with leisure services, public transport and highways maintenance all being affected, and members of the public are worried about losing these services.

“We are really pleased to have Malcolm Pate attend the meeting to tell us more about the budget, but also so that local people can ask questions and raise their concerns with him about the services they value in the area. I would encourage members of the public to come to the meeting and take part in these vitally important discussions.”

In addition to the agenda items, there is also an opportunity for the public to raise issues with their local councillors, and make suggestions for future presentations at the meetings.
