Some registration office opening times and venues to change

Related topics: Community

Registration office opening times, and some venues, will be changing shortly in four Shropshire market towns.

In Oswestry, the registration office will relocate from Castle View next door to Oswestry Library and Hub, Arthur Street, Oswestry SY11 1JN on Thursday 24 March 2016. The office will close at 4.30pm on Tuesday 22 March and will reopen after the Easter weekend, on Tuesday 29 March 2016. This should be an excellent move for customers, making the service more accessible to the public.

In Bishop’s Castle the registration office will remain located within Enterprise House, Station Street, Bishops Castle SY9 5AO, and the opening hours of the office will change from 1 April 2016. The registrar will now attend by appointment only, on Tuesday mornings between 10am and 12.30pm.

In Church Stretton the registration office will move from the Visitor Information Centre/Church Stretton Library on Church Street, to The Sylvester Horne Institute, High Street, Church Stretton, SY6 6BY. The opening hours of the office will also change. The registrar will attend by appointment only, on Tuesday afternoons between 2pm and 4pm.

In Wem the registration office will remain located within Edinburgh House, New Street, Wem, SY4 5DB. The opening times will change. The registrar will attend by appointment only, on Thursday mornings between 10am and 12.30pm.

Appointments can be made to register a birth, death or give notice of marriage or civil partnership in the usual way, either by visiting shropshire.gov.uk/registrar.nsf or by phoning on 0345 678 9016.

Karen Calder, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for registration services, said:

“We are pleased that the registration service is still going to be available in Church Stretton, Wem and Bishop’s Castle, when previously there was a threat to it remaining available in these towns. We hope that customers needing the services of the registrars in Oswestry and Church Stretton will find the new venues more convenient.”

The changes of opening hours follow a consultation – the registrars service review – that ran in May and June 2015, and were decided at a decision-making session on 27 January 2016 by Karen Calder, the Cabinet member. The location changes in Oswestry and Church Stretton were not part of the consultation in 2015, and were not decided at the decision-making session.
