Pupils from Harlescott Junior School in Shrewsbury will be ‘taking over’ Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery on Friday 20 November as part of Kids in Museums Takeover Day – a national campaign run by the organisation Kids in Museums.

The children will be taking part in a museum workshop and producing a trail to help young visitors explore the museum.

The museum’s popular Mini Mammoths parent and toddler group will also be taking part in Takeover Day and holding their regular collections-themed Friday morning session at the Museum & Art Gallery.

Fay Bailey, Learning and Activities Officer with Shropshire Council’s museums service, said:

“Kids in Museums Takeover Day is an opportunity for staff and visitors to see how putting young people at the heart of a museum makes it a vibrant and exciting place to be, and how working with young visitors can bring fresh ideas and positive changes.”

Kids in Museums’ Takeover Day is a celebration of children and young people’s contribution to museums, galleries and historic homes. It is a day on which they are given meaningful roles, working alongside staff and volunteers to participate in the life of the museum.
