Shropshire Council’s library service is looking for volunteers to help us deliver basic IT skills sessions at Oswestry Library.

These sessions enable more people to reap the benefits of being comfortable online, such as job-seeking, accessing essential everyday services, and keeping in touch with family and friends.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for business and culture, said:-

“Many essential everyday services are now easiest and more instant to access online, and this means that some people face more expensive and time-consuming paths, because of their lack of computing skills and confidence to access the Internet.

“We are hoping to help address this by offering free IT help sessions at Oswestry Library. People who do not have a computer at home can then use the free Internet access provided at the library.”

Volunteers will be helping people with essential skills such as setting up an email account, filling in online forms and how to stay safe online. We are looking for people who are competent with IT, patient and approachable, to offer a few hours each fortnight.
