Drive to recruit more Shropshire carers
News from our partners Shropshire Partners in Care
Four special events will be held in Shropshire this month (September 2015) in a bid to tackle the county’s ongoing recruitment crisis in the care industry.
Shropshire Partners in Care (SPIC), a not for profit organisation that represents independent nursing, residential and domiciliary care companies, is working in partnership with Shropshire Council and Job Centre Plus to hold recruitment drives at hotspots where it is especially difficult to get staff.
The events in Bridgnorth, Bishops Castle, Church Stretton and Ludlow will be informal information sessions for the people who live in those communities to find out about social care career options in the area.
Claire Smout, from the Care Workforce Development Partnership run by SPIC, said:
“These events are aimed at recruiting local people into local jobs so individuals don’t have to travel from all areas of Shropshire to provide care.
“It also means that people who are unable to drive or have access to transport can find out about options to access jobs in their local area.
“We are doing everything we can to try and boost the number of people joining the home care sector so people in Shropshire can continue to enjoy a high level of care. This will be a very informal opportunity to speak to care providers, Job Centre Plus and staff from the Care Workforce Development Partnership and Shropshire Council about joining the industry and career options.
“We will also be helping people sign up to the Care Ladder, which is a free online portal for people looking for care roles in Shropshire.”
Lee Chapman, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult services, said:
“Carers provide invaluable support to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. They are fundamental to enabling people to remain well and independent for longer. I hope that these events will encourage more people to take up this extremely rewarding career.”
The first event will be held in Bridgnorth on Monday 14 September 2015 at St James’ Church Hall from 9.30am to 1pm. The team will be in Bishop’s Castle Council Chamber on Friday 25 September from 9.30am to 1pm, the Jubilee Room at Church Stretton’s Mayfair Community Centre on Monday 28 September from 9.30am to 1pm, and in the Clun Room at the Mascall Centre, Ludlow, on Monday 28 September from 1.30pm to 5pm.
