Young families encouraged to ‘get active’ in Market Drayton this summer
Families with children under five in and around Market Drayton are encouraged to ‘get active’ this summer at Buntingsdale Road Park, Market Drayton on Wednesday 31 July 2013.
The free event is from 10am – 2pm and is organised by Shropshire Council’s Sure Start Children’s Centre Services.
A range of fun activities will be on offer for families to take part in, including music and movement, messy play and stories and rhymes. Bob the Shropshire Play Bus will also be at the event. You can bring a picnic with you. Older siblings are also welcome to attend with their families.
Sure Start Children’s Centre Services aims to promote services to families with children under five in the local area. The service supports children’s learning and development and encourages healthy lifestyles.
Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, said;
“Our Sure Start Children’s Centre Services provide many opportunities for families with children under five to take part in free fun activities to support healthy lifestyles.
The get active event is a great way to get young ones out and about. Play is an essential part of child’s learning and development, as well as being enjoyable for parents and carers. I would encourage families to come along, take part and have some fun.”
Parents will also be able to access information and advice from local children’s centre support workers about Sure Start Children’s Centre membership and what other groups and services are available in their local area.
The event will also be promoting the NHS Change for Life programme.
Sure Start Children’s Services also run Stay and Play groups weekly at their children’s centres at:
- Longlands Primary School on Mondays from 1pm – 3pm and Friday’s 9.30am – 11.30am
- Market Drayton Infant and Nursery School on Wednesdays from 1pm – 3pm
- Cheswardine Parish Hall on Tuesdays from 9.30am – 11.30am.
