Love where you live – Shrewsbury campaign

Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team will be out on the streets of Shrewsbury this Wednesday (12 June 2013) to encourage people to have pride in the place in which they live and keep it tidy.

Focusing on the route from Pride Hill to the Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, officers will be busy advising people on how to properly dispose of their litter as well as issue Environmental Crime Reports (ECR) if needed.

Also on the day, sprayed green footprints will lead to six bins with banners on, encouraging people to put their litter, chewing gum and cigarette butts in them.

All of this is part of their new ‘Love Where you Live’ campaign and is just one of lots of initiatives taking place across the county to highlight the benefits that preventing litter, fly-tipping and dog fouling can achieve.

Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for street scene, said:

“Litter is unsightly, potentially dangerous to people or animals, and is a criminal offence. The average fine for littering is around £75, but can be up to £2,500.

“Through the Love Where you Live Campaign we are keen to encourage people to have pride in their local community and therefore not drop litter.”
