Emergency services on the agenda at Worthen meeting
The next meeting of the Bishop’s Castle, Chirbury and Worthen, and Clun Local Joint Committee (LJC) takes place on Thursday 20 June 2013 starting at 7pm at Worthen Village Hall.
The focus of the meeting will be on emergency services in the area, where representatives of the ambulance, police and fire services will be speaking about how they deliver their service in the area, and what the future challenges of maintaining the service are.
John Redmond, Deputy Chief Fire Officer for Shropshire Fire and Rescue, Inspector Rob Thomas from West Mercia Police, and representatives from the Shropshire Ambulance Service will all be at the meeting talking about now their services deal with emergencies and calls from the public, and how they plan to work together in the future. Members of the Local Community First Responders team will also be at the meeting to talk about their work.
Nigel Hartin, Shropshire Councillor for Clun and chair of the LJC, commented:
“This LJC area covers a large rural area with a relatively small population. We will be discussing the challenges that our emergency services face in delivering their service in the area, particularly around the issue of response times to emergencies. We will also be exploring how we can support the services to work more closely together in the future, and also link in with the volunteers who give their time and experience in the area.
“We want to encourage members of the public to attend and tell us their experiences of the emergency services in the area, and to ask the speakers questions about their work. This is a really important subject in our LJC area.”
The meeting will also review the latest requests for grant support from the LJC, which include support for a new toilet for people with disabilities at Clun Hightown community room, and a request for funding from Worthen Village Hall to convert the former doctors surgery into a pre school.
There will be news from the parishes in the area, and a question and answer session with local councillors.
Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting and join in the discussions.
