Children’s centres in Gobowen and Weston Rhyn are hosting family activity days themed around the popular children’s book ‘The Gruffalo’. The events will take place on Thursday 27 June and Monday 1 July.

Families with children under-five can take part in the days Gruffalo themed activities, including an interactive story time, a Gruffalo walk and treasure trail and even meeting the Gruffalo himself.

The children will have a chance to get creative during the day as well with the opportunity to make their own Gruffalo masks and finger puppets.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council Cabinet member for children’s
services, said:

“These events are a great way to get younger children reading and involve the family. ‘The Gruffalo’ is a lovely book for this age group and the activities enable children to be creative and have fun with the story and parents. I think these days really demonstrate what our Children’s Centre Services are all about.”

The Gruffalo session in Weston Rhyn will take place between 1pm and 3pm on Thursday 27 June at the former Sure Start building at Weston Rhyn Primary School. Thursday morning Children’s Centre Stay and Play sessions run in the venue every week from 9.15am – 11.30am.

The Gruffalo activity morning in Gobowen will take place in Gobowen Primary School on Monday 1 July between 9am and 11.30am.

Free family drop-ins take place twice a week at Gobowen Primary School (in the extended schools building next to Gobowen Allrounders, formerly the Sure Start building). The Children’s Centre Stay and Play sessions take place every Monday throughout the school holidays from 9.15am to 11.30am, and Birth to Four group on Thursdays from 1.15pm to 2.45pm.
