B5069 retaining wall repairs to start near Morda Bridge

Work to repair a wall which retains the B5069 road alongside the entrance to Brookside near Morda Bridge, Morda, is scheduled to start on Monday 1 July 2013, and is expected to last for a period of up to five weeks.

Last week (week starting 10 June) traffic lights were erected on the B5069 road as a safety precaution to keep traffic away from the nearest lane the wall.  This is because, although the wall has been leaning for a while, monitoring has revealed the lean to be increasing.

The proposed work will involve taking down and rebuilding the damaged wall.

When the rebuilding work is underway, the road will continue to remain open under traffic light control.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance, said:

‘‘Whilst it is appreciated that the existing traffic lights may cause some inconvenience, it is hoped that people can see that they are needed for safety reasons.  In the meantime, everyone involved will do all that they can to complete the repair as soon as is reasonably possible.”

Joyce Barrow, local Shropshire Councillor for St Oswald, said:

“Hopefully the work will not cause too much disruption to local residents and will be completed as soon as possible.”
