Longden, Ford and Rea Valley LJC on 13 February
The next meeting of the Longden, Ford and Rea Valley Local Joint Committee (LJC) will be held on Wednesday 13 February 2013 at 7pm at Mary Webb School in Pontesbury.
The focus of the meeting will be flooding in the area, and the measures being taken by Shropshire Council to reduce the impact of floods on local communities.
Kevin Aitkin from the council’s highways team, and David Edwards from the flood management team, will be speaking on how their teams are working together to tackle flooding. They will include detail of how the council’s contractors Ringway are instructed to deal with the immediate flooding problems, as well as general maintenance programmes to keep drains, ditches and water courses in good working order.
Representatives from Shropshire Council’s emergency planning team will also be in attendance to speak about how communities can develop their own strategies for coping with floods, should they occur.
In addition to these speakers, there will also be an update from the local police officer PC Jon Summerfield, an update on public transport in the area, and news of the 2013 local elections.
The committee will also consider funding applications from Habberley Village Hall and the SY5 Gymnastics group.
Roger Evans, Shropshire Councillor and Chair of the LJC, commented:
“The last 6 months have seen a number of communities in the LJC area suffer from flooding, which has impacted on people’s homes and businesses and caused disruption locally. The meeting will provide people with an opportunity to find out how Shropshire Council is reducing the flooding risk. However, it’s also important that we plan for flooding events, and make sure communities have plans in place to support vulnerable people when these floods do occur.”
Everyone is welcome to attend and to ask speakers and local councillors questions during the course of the meeting.
