Ludlow Library celebrates Dickens bicentenary
Ludlow Library is celebrating the bicentenary of Charles Dickens with a festive Time to Listen event next week (Thursday 13 December 2012).
The Penny Readings event, to take place at 7pm at the Methodist Hall on Broad Street, will see the Friends of Ludlow Library reading seasonal extracts from the work of Charles Dickens with the accompaniment of music.
The event is billed as ‘a delight to the ear and senses’ and there will be light refreshment and congenial company. Tickets are priced at £3 and are available from Ludlow Library.
Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for libraries, said:
“This event marks a successful year for Time to Listen, now running in eight of Shropshire’s libraries and encouraging local people to take time for themselves and listen to a good story read aloud.
“Time to Listen tasters are also offered to community groups, and library staff offer support to organisers who wish to start running regular sessions themselves.”
Reading at the Penny Readings event next week, Jonathan Ormond from the Friends of Ludlow Library, said:
“I always enjoy reading aloud to an audience and Dickens is one of the best authors for this purpose.”
Rosanna Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, said:
“This special reading event promises to be a timely celebration of some of Dickens’ work, and would make an excellent start to the Christmas celebrations away from the hustle and bustle of preparations for Christmas.”
