Shrewsbury BikeFest – 11 June 2011
Bring your bicycle for a great free day out at the fifth annual Bike Fest on Saturday 11 June.Cycle Shrewsbury’s festival of cycling will be held at Shrewsbury Sports Village from 10am to 4pm and has something for everyone, whatever your level of cycling experience.
Special attractions include Quest 88 adapted bicycles for people with disabilities, and Islabikes’ range of children’s bikes to try out – or if you can’t ride a bike the Islabikes team will give you a lesson.
You can also join a guided ride, have your bike checked, have a go at BMX, cyclo-cross and uni-cycling, or make your own pedal-powered smoothie.
If you haven’t got your bike with you, you can just watch the cycling circus performer, visit the information stalls, and create some cycle-themed art in the Bike It tent.
The full programme for the day can be found by clicking here where you can also watch a video of last year’s Bike Fest. You can also phone Cycle Shrewsbury on 01743 255435.
Cycle Shrewsbury is Shropshire Council’s campaign to encourage more people to choose to cycle on their local journeys. The campaign received government funding from 2008-11 and Shropshire Council has now bid for further government funding to continue the Cycle Shrewsbury work and to set up similar projects in Oswestry and Ludlow. A decision on this further funding is expected in July.
The Shrewsbury Bike Fest was first held in 2007 and has grown in popularity each year, with hundreds of people of all ages attending.
