Repair of Chirbury Bridge
Work to repair Chirbury Bridge, which carries the B4386 Chirbury to Montgomery road over a watercourse, will start on Monday 13 June 2011 and is expected to last for a period of six weeks.
Traffic lights were erected at the bridge in February 2011 on an emergency basis when one of the bridge’s spandrel walls was found to have collapsed, leaving the edge of the road unsupported.
The repair work will also include strengthening the bridge’s north-eastern wing wall.
When the repair work is underway, the road will continue to remain open under traffic light control.
The collapse is thought to have occurred as a result of frost heave during the extreme cold weather experienced in December 2010.
