Come and influence planning policy at Selattyn
People who live in and around Selattyn are being given the chance to influence planning policy at a special event this month.
Between 20 and 30 people are invited to sign up on a first-come first-served basis to a one-off “community toolkit event’ in Selattyn at 7pm on 29 June 2011, being organised by Shropshire Council. This is so local people can help make sure the council has the best quality information possible about where you live.
Selattyn will be the first settlement or village within a Shropshire parish where this toolkit approach is to be used at such a local level in a community. The results will be very helpful for further work with small communities in Shropshire.
The council is looking for a range of people from Selattyn and ideally therefore a balance of views, from young people aged 11 up, parents with children, right through to older retired people. Organisers will mix people into group discussion tables during the event to share their knowledge with each other and with the council.
Selattyn and Gobowen Parish Council are also involved in the event, and will be aiming to use the results in working with communities across the whole parish afterwards.
Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for community engagement, said:
“We need people to come along and take part to tell us what Selattyn is like, its positives and negatives. This will form a base for us to work from to plan for the future, delivering what the community wants and needs.”
Local councillors, David Lloyd and Trevor Davies, added:
“We’re really looking forward to meeting and working with local people and find out community views about life in and around Selattyn.”
The community toolkit event will include teas and coffees from 6.30pm, and a midpoint break for light refreshments. It will be held at the Cross Keys in Selattyn, on the evening of Wednesday 29 June, and will start at 7pm. The aim is to conclude by 9.45pm.
If you want to take part and give your views then please volunteer. People will then be sent material ahead of the event. Organisers are encouraging people to get their names in by the end of Tuesday 21 June.
