Community payback sheds light in Dark Lane, Ludlow
Shropshire Council’s street scene team and the probation community payback team have been busy clearing Dark Lane in Ludlow.
Around 70 bags of litter, mud and leaves have been collected so far, and three quarters of the lane which links Parys Road, beside Gallow’s Bank, to Rock Lane is now clear.
Weather permitting, the team of 12 will go back this week (Thursday 10 March 2011) to finish clearing the lane.
Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport and IT and local councillor for Ludlow South, said:
“Voluntary labour, of all sorts, really contributes to community well-being. We are really pleased to have so many people helping across the area and welcome the probation service workforce to help.
“It was great to hear walkers passing by giving such positive comments on the day about the work that is being undertaken. The difference before and after the clearance is definitely being noticed by regular users of the lane.”
Other towns across the south west area have been nominated for projects, and a schedule is being drawn up of works to brighten the area, over and above the work the council’s paid staff undertake.
