Would-be homebuyers with local connections are being offered the pick of plots as construction continues on a new-homes development in Ellesmere.

Cornovii Homes, Shropshire Council’s wholly-owned homebuilding company, says it is making excellent progress developing its Ellesmere Wharf development, and local people who have already expressed interest in the development will be given the first opportunity to reserve a plot.

Six plots on the 23-home development are due to be released for sale this month, and in keeping with Cornovii Developments Limited’s pledge to provide competitively-priced homes for local people, there is a two-week window of opportunity for local people who have already registered their interest in the development to act.

Shropshire Council, working in partnership with One Public Estate, has secured £544,507 from the Government’s Brownfield Land Release Fund to develop on the land, which is classed as brownfield.

Harpreet Rayet, managing director of Cornovii Developments Limited, said:-

“As a Shropshire housing developer, we are committed to addressing the housing shortage by building sustainable homes across the county and improving the lives of the local residents.

“As well as revitalising a long-term derelict brownfield site, Ellesmere Wharf is bringing much-needed affordable, quality homes to the town and supporting the local economy. The first six homes are being released to the market; and in line with our mission to make homes affordable and to help local people remain in their communities, they will be offered directly to that customer base first.”

Dean Carroll, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for housing and assets, said:-

“It’s an exciting milestone for the development at Ellesmere Wharf.

“It is important that we bring forward more affordable houses to sustain our local towns and villages, and that local people have the opportunity to set up home in their own communities.”

Geoff Elner, local Shropshire Counncillor for Ellesmere Urban, added:-

“This impressive development, built in a much sought after location, is an excellent example of Shropshire Council’s initiative to help regenerate and sustain communities, and will help to support people to be able to live close to their families and friends.

“Cornovii Homes’ pledge to provide competitively priced homes for local families will achieve its goal in Ellesmere, and offering these homes to people with a local connection to the town is a most welcome opportunity for families to set up their own home within the heart of our community.”

Ellesmere Wharf offers a range of high-quality 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes and 1 and 2-bedroom bungalows.

The homes will be released in three phases. Phase one consists of six properties including five 3-bedroom semi-detached houses, and a 2-bedroom semi-detached home.
