Shrewsbury Town Walls to Claremont Bank improvements – planned road closures

Related topics: Highways, transport and environmental maintenance

Improvement works are currently  being carried out between Town Walls and Claremont Bank in Shrewsbury. The work is being carried out as part of the Shrewsbury Integrated Transport Package (SITP) – a package of  measures designed to improve the transport system in Shrewsbury by improving key junctions and enhancing the town centre.

As part of the work there will be several short term closures between Beeches Lane (Town Walls) and Lower Claremont Bank of approximately one week each, to allow the safe construction and completion of improvement works in narrow areas.

The first closure will be from Monday 18 March until Wednesday 27 March [2019], to allow work to be carried out at the Town Walls/Belmont junction.

During this closure Town Walls access will be maintained for residents and businesses only, up to the cathedral, with the exit being out via Town Walls and Williams Way. No through traffic will be permitted after the cathedral and diversion routes will be signed for all other through traffic.

The second closure – to allow work to be carried out at Claremont Bank (St Chad’s Terrace) – will be implemented on Monday 15 April for one week. Access will be maintained via local roads for residents and businesses, with signed diversion routes in place for through traffic.

Work being carried out as part of the Town Walls to Claremont Bank improvements includes: the upgrading of footway materials to improve the aesthetic appearance of the area; improvements to footway crossing facilities along the whole route;  improved road layout and parking, and carriageway resurfacing.
