A bin lorry on a snowy streetWe’ve received a number of calls and comments following recent reports that Shropshire Council plans to charge for green (garden) waste collections.

As a result, we’re keen to clarify what the current situation is, and hopefully clear up any confusion.

Shropshire Council is considering charging for the collection of green waste. However, at the moment there are no firm plans for implementation.

A proposal to charge for green waste collections is included in our current 2019/20 budget consultation, which runs until 18 February 2019 and can be found here. Following the consultation the budget proposals will be discussed and considered by councillors at a meeting of full Council on 28 February [2019], before the final budget is agreed.

If the proposals for garden waste are progressed, a separate and detailed public consultation will take place, to let you know what is proposed and why, and to give you chance to have your say.

Following such a public consultation, the proposals would then have to go to the council’s Cabinet for consideration and a final decision.

We hope this helps to clarify the current situation. If and when there are any developments we will, of course, provide further updates.
