B4373 closure – update following last Friday’s lorry fire

Related topics: Highways, transport and environmental maintenance

The B4373 at Bridgnorth (WV16 4SH) is currently closed due to a lorry fire last Friday evening (29 June 2018). The fire caused some damage to the road and a nearby tree.

This is an update on the work that will be carried out this week by Shropshire Council and our partners in the Shropshire Highways alliance.

Tuesday 3 July: debris will be removed from the site of the fire, and Shropshire Council’s arboricultural team will inspect the tree that was scorched by the fire.

Wednesday 4 July: the affected road and footway will be resurfaced.

Thursday 5 July: the road markings will be replaced, and the road gullies and highway drains will be cleaned using a high-pressured jetting unit. At the same time environmental clean-up specialists will be on site to assess the quality of run-off from the highway drains into the nearby drainage interceptor which discharges directly into Cantern Brook and then into the River Severn. They will then arrange for the interceptor to be  cleaned of any detritus.

Note: we will advise later in the week as to when the road will re-open.

Whilst the road is closed a small section of the B4373 near Dunval Farm – which was subject to a car fire earlier in the year – will be resurfaced.

Diversion: Due to the closure of the B4373, traffic is being diverted along local routes B4376 and A458 and vice versa.
