Could this be you? An example of how one of the final photographs could look.

Shropshire Council has begun a search for local people and families to be ‘the face’ of its new energy partnership with energy provider SSE.

In April 2017 the two organisations launched the new Shropshire Community Energy tariff. Cheaper than SSE’s Standard tariff it’s exclusively available to Shropshire residents, Shropshire Council staff and those working for the council’s partner organisations. Every time an eligible person switches to the Shropshire tariff – or signs up to SSE’s new phone and broadband package – SSE pays a fee to Shropshire Council, and – from 1 October 2017 – this money will be donated to local good causes.

As the partnership benefits local people and local good causes, Shropshire Council wants to use photographs of local people in local locations on material that will be used to promote the energy tariff, and the phone and broadband offer. This includes leaflets, posters, display stands and the council website.

As a result, a search has today (Friday 22 September 2017) been launched to find the people who will be featured in these photos – and individuals, couples and families are being sought.

Could you and your partner feature in one of the final photographs, as in this example?

Anyone who is interested simply needs to send Shropshire Council a photo of the person/people willing to be featured in a promotional photograph, along with a few words outlining why they think they should be chosen. The photo can be of an individual, a couple or a family.

Applications can be emailed to communications@shropshire.gov.uk, or sent by post to Shirehall, Shrewsbury SY2 6ND. The application needs to be made by the bill-payer.

The closing date for receipt of entries is 31 October 2017. After this date up to five applications will be chosen by a panel of representatives from Shropshire Council and SSE.

The winners will then be photographed in their home, or at a Shropshire landmark near to their home – and their photograph will used to help promote the tariff, and/or the phone and broadband offer.

All applicants will be asked to carry out an energy price comparison with SSE to see if they could save money by switching to the Shropshire energy tariff.

Nic Laurens, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for economic growth, said:

“We’re about to produce some new and updated promotional material to help promote our partnership with SSE, including the energy tariff and the new phone and broadband offer.
“As a local partnership, that aims to benefit local people and local good causes, we want to use photos of real Shropshire people in real Shropshire locations in our promotion.
“So, we encourage individual, couples and families who would like to enjoy some time in the spotlight, to get in touch – it could soon be their faces that you see on our website and on posters around the county.”
