Shropshire Coroner’s Office recruiting volunteers in work with national charity

Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin’s Coroner Service is to work with national charity, Coroner’s Court Service (CCS) in recruiting volunteers to provide witness and family support at inquests.

The CCS is a well respected professional body of volunteers who are trained to provide  emotional and practical support to both family members and witnesses attending a Coroners court and to assist the Coroners officer on the day of an inquest.

The CCS will shortly be recruiting locally for people who feel that they could deliver this important and very high quality service.

Full training will be provided to all volunteers giving their time to support a crucial public service and the people it helps.

Karen Burton, Registration Services Manager at Shropshire Council, said:

“We are looking forward to working with the Coroner’s Court Service to allow us to continue to provide a high quality service to the people of Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin in their time of need.

“With the help of the good people of Shropshire who are willing to offer their time to help others, we know that this service will provide excellent support for those families who have suffered a bereavement in what are usually the most tragic of circumstances.”

The coroners’ service is jointly funded between Shropshire Council and Telford and Wrekin Council and covers the geographical county of Shropshire.
