A meeting is to be held in Baschurch on Wednesday 18 January, starting at 6.30pm, to discuss how to improve the safety of children travelling to school on Eyton Lane and Shrewsbury Road.

The meeting of the Baschurch Multi Agency Liaison Group will be held at the Corbet School.

The Group is made up of a number of key partners, including the Corbet School, Baschurch Primary School, Baschurch Parish Council, West Mercia Police and Shropshire Council, and has been in discussions for some time about how best to improve safety on these two roads.

With this in mind road safety measures have recently been introduced on the B5067 Shrewsbury Road in Baschurch with the primary purpose of improving safety for children and parents walking to the Primary and Secondary School on Eyton Lane. This has included a zebra crossing and a build- out to ensure that young people have a safe place to cross but also to reduce speeding through Baschurch.

Following the completion of the works the Group sought local feedback on the road safety measures implemented via a parents and residents’ survey. Alongside this and most importantly the views of young people were sought via a Youth Council session at the Corbet.

Now the Chair of Baschurch Multi Agency Liaison Group, Councillor Nick Bardsley, is seeking feedback from residents of Baschurch and particularly the parents of young people traveling to school at this open meeting.

Councillor Bardsley, Shropshire Councillor for Baschurch, Ruyton XI Towns and Hordley, said:

“The Baschurch Multi Agency Group would welcome local residents’ views to a number of road improvements that have been made over the course of 2015/16 on Eyton Lane and Shrewsbury Road.

“These changes have been made firstly to ensure the safety of young people travelling to school, and secondly, to try and discourage HGVs and reduce the speed of traffic through Baschurch.

This has been a partnership approach working directly with the Baschurch Parish Council, Baschurch Primary School, the Corbet, and West Mercia Police as well as highways officers at Shropshire Council. We welcome resident and parent views on the changes made and encourage local people to attend this public meeting to give their feedback on the measures put in place.

The Baschurch Multi Agency Liaison Group encourage all local residents to attend the meeting and welcomes their views.
