A series of classical and modern films portraying alcoholism and recovery will be screened in cinemas across Shropshire next week.

Shropshire Recovery Film Season starts on Monday 14 November in support of national Alcohol Awareness Week 2016 which runs until Saturday 20th November.

This year Shropshire Drugs & Alcohol Action Team has planned the ‘Shropshire Recovery Film Season’ which involves screening a selection of films exploring recovery from alcohol dependence:

  • ‘The Lost Weekend’ (certificate PG, 1945), Monday 14th November, Ludlow Assembly Rooms, 7.30pm
  • ‘Days Of Wine And Roses’ (certificate PG, 1962), Wednesday 16th November, The Festival Drayton Centre, Market Drayton, 7.30pm
  • ‘When A Man Loves A Woman’ (certificate 15, 1994), Thursday 17th November, Wem Town Hall, 7.30pm
  • ‘Smashed’ (certificate 15, 2012), Saturday 19th November, The Hive, Shrewsbury, 8pm

Karen Calder, Shropshire Council Cabinet member for health and chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board, said:

“Each year the Shropshire Council supports the national Alcohol Awareness initiative and looks to engage with people about this important issue and this year we are looking to engage with people through film.

“Supporting this national campaign underlies our commitment to supporting county residents who have problems with drug or alcohol use and helping them in their recovery.

“If you or somebody you know has problems with drugs or alcohol I’d encourage you to contact The Shropshire Recovery Partnership on 01743 294700 or email info@shropshirerecovery.com.”
