Shropshire prepares for Armed Forces Day celebrations

Related topics: Community

As Armed Forces Day (25 June) approaches, Shropshire Council are urging residents and businesses alike to join in the celebration of our Armed Forces community.

Across Shropshire local organisations and groups have been pledging their support through events and special offers for our Armed Forces community.

With many planned events countywide, this is a great opportunity for a fun day with family or friends whilst supporting those who have sacrificed much to serve our country.

Tim Barker, Shropshire Councillor responsible for the Armed Force Covenant, said:

The Armed Forces community has long played a central role nationally and here in Shropshire. These events on Armed Forces Day will allow us to celebrate and recognise the sacrifice and achievements of currently serving personnel, Service families, Reservists, veterans and cadets.

“Shropshire has a rich history with our country’s Armed Forces and it’s greatly encouraging to see that so many events are being held in celebration across the county.”

David Fairclough, Armed Forces Covenant Co-ordinator for Shropshire Council, said:

“Armed Forces Day is a great opportunity for Shropshire residents to celebrate the work of our Armed Forces.

“It’s encouraging to see that so many towns and villages in Shropshire are holding events that will not only celebrate and thank our Armed Forces community, but bring the military and civilian communities together as well.”
