The events will take place beginning 8 March 2016, on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 8 March– Shrewsbury at 5.30pm, Ludlow at 5.30pm
  • Wednesday 9 March – Telford at 5.30pm
  • Thursday 10 March – Ludlow at 5.30pm
  • Monday 14 March – Oswestry at 5.30pm
  • Tuesday 15 March – Bishop’s Castle, drop-in session between 4pm – 6pm
  • Wednesday 16 March – Whitchurch at 5.30pm.

Rachel Coombes, marketing officer at County Training, encouraged anyone interested in finding out more about the Apprenticeship programme to come along:-

‘’Due to high levels of interests at previous similar events, anyone that would like to attend will need to book a place by calling 0345 678 9023 or email countytraining@shropshire.gov.uk.’’

These ‘not to be missed’ events promise a wide variety of opportunities for all young people leaving school or college this year as well as 16-24 year olds looking for work and training. County Training also offer the pre-apprenticeship programme ‘Advance’ which has been designed for those individuals not yet ready for an apprenticeship, college or employment.

Parents and carers are welcome to attend the events to find out about the range of apprenticeships, work and training opportunities available for their sons and daughters. Starting to consider personal aims and aspirations at an early stage can increase confidence and understanding of the next steps among those attending.

Nick Bardsley, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member for education, said:-

“University and a degree course is not the answer for all young people. The Secure your Apprenticeship events encourage local young people to take control of their future and to see that an apprenticeship could be the right path for them as work based learning is increasingly becoming the preferred way of gaining a secure footing on the career ladder. This way you get paid while you learn and avoid debt that other choices can bring.”

There will be real opportunities to secure job interviews or places on work related training programmes. All those who would like to come along will receive a free pack with information on career options and a handy booklet full of hints and tips on CV writing, interview techniques, speculative letters and employers’ expectations.

County Training has recently secured a grade 2 in its Ofsted inspection, with outstanding results in many areas. This leading provider for Shropshire offers a range of apprenticeships and vocational qualification in areas including: business and administration, brewing, childcare, education,computer-aided design, customer service, hair and beauty, health and social care, horse management, hospitality and catering, IT, motor vehicle, management and warehouse, and storage. In addition customers can access help with maths and English along with the Advance course to help 16-18 year olds move onto their future options.
