Shawbury Library drop-in event next Monday

Related topics: Community

A drop in event is being held at Shawbury Library on Monday 27 July 2015 from 2pm until 6pm. As part of the redesign of library services, Shropshire Council would like to explore alternative community management arrangements for Shawbury Library.

The drop-in event is an opportunity for local people to discuss the future of the library, and to suggest alternative approaches to its day-to-day management.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet member with responsibility for libraries, said:

“As a result of financial pressures, we, alongside other councils, face lots of challenges over the coming months and years, meaning that we constantly need to look at the way we do things to ensure that valuable services are delivered in the best and most sustainable way possible.

“Libraries play a big part in the well-being of our communities every day. We are keen to work with local people and organisations to try to find the best solutions to meeting the needs of that local community so that their library can continue to flourish. We look forward to hearing everyone’s ideas.”

Simon Jones, local Shropshire Councillor for Shawbury, added:

“The future of the library is dependent on finding a new organisation to run it.  I would encourage anyone with ideas on how the library can become a sustainable community resource for future years to attend and discuss their ideas with the Shropshire Council staff.”

Public consultation on possible options for future library provision in Shawbury is planned to follow in September 2015.
