Shropshire’s MYPs (Members of Youth Parliament) have organised a ‘de-stress day’ for young people on Saturday 8 November 2014, as stress was identified as a major concern among young people.

Running between 11am and 3pm at the Grange Youth Centre, Shrewsbury, there are a host of activities to get involved in and a ‘mad hatter’s lunch’.  The range of things to get involved in on the day covers music, art, cooking, Morris dancing, skateboarding and dog walking.  There will also be opportunities for people to learn about the impact of stress, and methods to minimise its influence and disruption, especially to sleep

Georgia Kelly, MYP, said:

“We have organised a range of really exciting activities to help young people de-stress in positive ways.  If you would like to come, book a place with our youth worker, Lorraine Warrender lorraine.warrender@shropshire.gov.uk or phone/text 07990 087001.

Awareness of the stresses young people face is increasing, and there is a strong desire to improve the environment and support systems for young people.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, said:

“There is increasing understanding of the stresses young people face and it’s fantastic to see such an initiative being taken to help provide support.”
