Temporary closure of The Linney in Ludlow

Related topics: Community

The Linney, Ludlow, will be closed to through traffic between 8am and 5pm on Tuesday 17 September 2013 to enable drainage investigation work to be carried out.

The reason for carrying out the proposed investigation work is that it has been discovered that some of the grout used last summer as part of the process of installing ground anchors to strengthen the nearby Town Wall has found its way underground into a nearby drain.  Although this drain appears to be still functioning properly, it is proposed to carry out investigation work to ensure that there are no hidden problems.

Unfortunately, in order to carry out the proposed investigation work, it will be necessary to temporarily close The Linney to through traffic.  This is because it will be necessary to work from a manhole which is in the middle of the road.

The actual point at which the road will be closed is immediately west of its junction with Upper Linney.  Therefore, traffic will be unable to access Upper Linney from the direction of Dinham Bridge when the closure is in place.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Corve Street and Ludlow town centre.

Access along The Linney for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will continue to be available throughout the proposed road closure.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for highways and transport, said:

‘‘It is appreciated that the road closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to complete the work and reopen the road as soon as possible.”

Rosanna Taylor-Smith, local Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, said:

“We will do our best to reopen The Linney as soon as possible and apologise for the disruption to residents.”
